description:
|
These data show observations of elk reported by the public from 2012 to 2018. Condition of elk ranges from healthy animals to those showing possible symptoms of elk hoof disease (limping) to dead elk with hoof deformities. Neither limping elk nor hoof deformities constitute proof of hoof disease and are only indicators of the possible presence of this disease. Healthy elk are under-reported in this data. A change in the trend in the number of elk (limpiing or dead) observations does not necessarily indicate a change in the disease prevalence. Locationally, observations are biased towards elk near roads and other areas where the public can easily access and observe. |
