Description:

Mapping of Visible Surface Water (VSW), or water features not concealed by other objects (i.e., tree canopy, bridges, etc.), is an important component of landcover models. VSW is not intended to represent a full hydrography or show connectivity, like other available water datasets – like NHD – whose boundaries may include other landcover types (i.e., shrubs, trees, etc.). Each feature has been visually verified and given attributes by an analyst. This dataset is also unique in that it reflects surface water for a single year - 2017. A variety of funding sources acquired between 2019 and 2023 aided the completion of the dataset for the entire state of Washington.
